How does the trial work?
Download Peekaboo and use the full app for 7 days, free. No card, no account. After the trial, enter a license key to keep going.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apple Silicon is recommended for the Medium Whisper model. On Intel, Peekaboo defaults to the Small model for speed.
Does transcription happen locally?
Yes. Peekaboo uses WhisperKit on your Mac. Your audio never leaves the device. The model downloads once during onboarding and then works offline.
Do I need an OpenAI or Claude API key?
No. Peekaboo's cleanup runs on your Mac. Nothing to set up, nothing to pay per word.
Why a notes layer?
Use Quick Dictation mode if you just want a paste. The notes layer means every thought is also saved, searchable, and organized.
Does it work in any app?
Yes. Peekaboo records globally and pastes cleaned text into the app where you were typing: Slack, Mail, Notion, your editor, Messages, and more.
Why does it need Accessibility permission?
Accessibility lets Peekaboo paste text at your cursor. Without it, captured text lands on the clipboard for manual paste.
Can I change the shortcut?
Yes. The default is Option + Shift + Space because plain Option + Space conflicts with non-breaking-space input on several European layouts.
How is this different from macOS Dictation?
Dictation types into the focused field. Peekaboo cleans up filler words, formats your speech, saves to local history, categorizes notes, and lets you re-paste later.
Is it a subscription?
No. Buy once, own it. Free updates during v1. The Duo license covers two Macs.
What is your refund policy?

What languages does it support?
Whisper handles 13+ languages including English, Finnish, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Russian. Auto-detect is on by default.
